Yes, Denver, We’re Open - Supporting Local Businesses - Westerra launched Yes, Denver, We’re Open to help bring awareness—and business—to the small locally-owned businesses that have remained open during the COVID-19 crisis to serve our community. What started as random acts of kindness by Westerra Credit Union employees, giving $10 gift cards from local businesses to people using the credit union’s drive-up facilities, has turned into a metro-wide campaign to let people know about the businesses they can use now, while helping the business get through the impacts of the pandemic. Special Olympics Selects Westerra Credit Union as Community Partner of the Month - Special Olympics Colorado selected Westerra for this honor to thank employees and members for their contributions and volunteerism—especially during the Polar Plunge Series which launched February 23! Westerra's sponsorship helps raise funds for the Unified School Strategy program to help more than 25,000 Coloradans participate in Special Olympics—and to help end discrimination against people with intellectual disabilities. Jay Champion Named President/CEO of Westerra Credit Union - John McCloy to Retire - The Westerra Credit Union Board of Directors has named Jay Champion as the next President and Chief Executive Officer of Westerra Credit Union effective December 1, 2018, succeeding John McCloy who has announced his retirement. Champion joins Westerra from Boulder-based Elevations Credit Union where he most recently served as Chief Operating Officer. Read the press release

Westerra Team Pulls Plane for Special Olympics Colorado - A giant tug-of-war between teams of 25 people and a 164,000 pound jet took place August 12 at Denver Interational Airport. The annual Plane Pull raised more than $140,000 for Special Olympics Colorado to provide year-round training and athletic competition for thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout Colorado. Douglas County Schools Recognizes Westerra as Community Partner of the Year - The Douglas County Schools Educational Foundation recognized Westerra Credit Union as Community Partner of the Year at the District's 2017 Apple Awards celebration on May 4 at the Douglas County Events Center in Castle Rock. The District said they selected Westerra for the many ways the credit union helps students and the community learn beyond the walls of the school—encouraging involvement in Special Olympics, engaging students in classroom presentations, furthering financial education through the credit union's $52.80 fundraising program, and providing grants to help schools meet their specific needs. Semple Recognized with Lifetime Achievement Award - The National School Boards Association’s Council of School Attorneys (COSA) presented the prestigious national Lifetime Achievement Award to Martin Semple on March 24 at the general session of their 2017 School Law Seminar in Denver, Colorado. Martin Semple has represented school districts in Colorado for nearly 40 years and has served as the credit union’s General Counsel for over 25 years. Read the press release.
